Gender equality

Introduction

Gender refers to the identity and characteristics of male and female that are constructed by the society whereas equality means giving equal treatment to the people so gender equality defines the right, duties, and opportunities that are distributed equally without being bias among male, female, biosexual and transgender. Equality must ensure that rights, opportunities, education, health are to be provided in an equal manner in rightful way. Physical appearance mustn't be the valid reason to differentiate the mentality of any gender. Gender equality should include all gender when it comes about priorities in anything.

Mostly in male dominated society male are given preferences in compare to any other gender. Ever since the formation of the society females are dominated and society always find fault in the work that are specially done by females I.e daughters, daughter in- law. ''Male and female are taken as the two wheels of a cart'', but in real it doesn't exist as if it was just written to be said as a phrase. Every gender are the pillars of the nation which indicates that equality should be for all not just male. Prioritizing male and mentality of treating indifferently should be eradicated to balance the society. Around the world we are seeing positive changes in gender equality in some develop countries whereas some are yet to change. We are living in 21st century in spite of that we are still carrying the ideology of superiority and inferiority. In order to bring change in the society we must get rid of prejudice and preconception about females are not able to obtain the thing that men can not female are weaker. In physical strength, female may not be a match but it does not mean that females are weaker than males. Among positive change of giving rights to male and male including rights to biosexual and transgender in most of the countries are worth of praising.

Gender equality in Nepal

While studying the history about gender equality in Nepal we are seeing few changes and developmental laws in favors of all gender. Females has passed through harsh rana regime, patriarchy, sati system, male domination, violence and many more but now it has been replaced which is a good sign of progress, so something is better than nothing. If something is to be change permanently its better to be converted slowly as is obvious to last longer.

In Nepal women were suppose to be a house wife working for the better of the family, taking care of household chores, children and in-laws. Male are the bread winner and the head of the home whose permission final statement. Trend of male domination is changing as both males and females are now understanding each other's importance in life and both has to be equal in everything. Though male dominance is yet to be found in many houses it's going to be substitute by an equality in upcoming days. One of the notable differences that is seen in equality of present time is the right to education for son and daughter which is sure to make a huge impact in gender equality in the future. Change should come within you by your own understanding not by the pressure or through other's suggestion because some people pretends to be different from outside but if you are not accepting the fact wholeheartedly than you rather remain unchanged.

Why gender equality is important?

  1. To give equal rights and opportunities to all gender equally without biasness.
  2. To end typical patriarchal ideology from the society.
  3. To prevent and eradicate gender base violence.
  4. To treat everyone equally and end preconception.
  5. To balance the society, house, and the country.

Conclusion

Hence, gender equality is the most needed change that should be our major concern in the present advance society. We have already been in difficult suitation in past days so its time to bring positiveness for the future generations. We must create a country free from gender bias. And the thing that should be kept in our mind is to be fair with all gender and domination toward male or female mustn’t be the new issues after solving gender equality from the community. Gender equality should be able to create peaceful society and the world. And lets hope for the best.
